MELKSHAM Town Council is planning a weekend to remember to celebrate the 800th anniversary of Melksham’s Market Charter next year.
In 1219 Melksham was granted a Charter to hold a market every Friday and a fair on Michaelmas Day, a Christian festival to celebrate Saint Michael the Archangel. The council plan to host a medieval event in 2019 on Saturday 28th September and on Michaelmas Day, Sunday 29th September, to mark the historic moment in Melksham’s history.
A task and finish group has been formed by the council to push the plans forward. More details are expected soon.
