LOCAL residents of Primrose Drive and surrounding areas are being invited to a meeting at The Canberra Centre on Monday 31st October to discuss setting up a Residents Group.
The residents hope to set up a group in order to look after and maintain a green area which is used by local people.
The meeting, which has been organised by councillor Jon Hubbard, is as a result of a dispute the residents had with Wiltshire Council about a bench that was built and installed by residents. Wiltshire Council was going to remove the bench but residents insisted it is a community asset and should stay.
Cllr Hubbard said, “The bench on Primrose Drive is not going to be removed. The potential enforcement action that was being pursued by Wiltshire Council and that has now been stopped.
“We have arranged a residents meeting on 31st October at 7.30pm at The Canberra Centre to look at setting up a formal Residents Group to support the maintenance and development of this lovely community resource.
“It is important in this process that we consider the views of all local residents, so I will be trying to speak to as many as possible over the coming weeks as we develop this exciting proposal.
“In the current climate we are relying more and more on local people taking ownership and responsibility for the community they live in and I am delighted to be able to support and work with this group to do just that with this green space.”
