LOCAL groups and organisations have been awarded grants of up to £5,000 in this month’s Melksham Area Board meeting.
Grants were awarded to local organisations to help them continue supporting the residents of Melksham, at the meeting on Tuesday 12th September at Melksham Community Campus.
Organisations that had applied for a Community Area Grant and were given the top tier payment of £5,000 were; Wharf Court Residents to go towards residents’ lounge refurbishment and St John Ambulance, to go towards a Wiltshire Community Support Unit vehicle.
Other organisations to receive a Community Area Grant were Melksham Music and Drama, £1,000 to go towards radio microphones and Meadowbrook CIC, £1,600 for improvements to entrance track and car park area for their nature area in Woodrow Road.
West Wilts Radio applied for £1,875 in the Community Area Grant scheme to go towards digital audio broadcasting transition however, this was declined as there wasn’t enough evidence to demonstrate the additional benefits to residents in Melksham.
Older and Vulnerable Adults Grants were also given and £1,500 went to Wiltshire Music Centre towards Celebrating Age Wiltshire.
The organisations not given a grant in this category were, Melksham Free Dining that requested £845.51 to go towards disposables and Rainbow Day Centre and meet at The Riverside Centre, which requested £2,000 to go towards the Rainbow Day Centre for the elderly.
In the Youth Grants category, local youth organisation, 4 Youth (South West), was given two Youth Grants of £5,000. One grant will go towards remote villages street-based youth work and one to go towards detached youth work Melksham.
