Melksham Scout HQ recently hosted the annual Beaver challenge at King George V Park, bringing together Beaver groups from across the West Wiltshire district.
Seven groups took part in the challenge, with the winner going on to carry the District Cub Flag at the annual St George’s Day parade next spring. This year’s winner was 1st Hilperton Scouts.

District programme team member Anne Cranham said, “There was a wide variety of bases, ranging from rope football to rescuing Fred. The Human Buckeroo also proved most enjoyable to watch as well as take part in.
“Teamwork was much needed for building a tower, Yale locks, and making the map. The football and pea challenge required patience and skill. Rescuing Fred tested all teams at all levels of ability. A refreshment break was needed halfway through, and the Beavers resumed with renewed vigour.
“Many congratulations to 1st Hilperton Scouts,” said Anne. “Thanks to all the leaders and adults who came along and made it an enjoyable and fun afternoon.”
