A MELKSHAM business owner has recently enjoyed Afternoon Tea and a tour of the House of Lords.
Karine Chevalier-Watts, owner and director of international language services agency KLAS Languages, was amongst a small group of members from The European Atlantic Movement (TEAM), invited to attend a tea party at Palace of Westminster.
Karine said, “We enjoyed a lavish afternoon tea, which composed of delicious fine sandwiches, cakes and scones.
“There was also the opportunity for networking, as we were invited to enjoy the magnificent view of the Thames from the terrace of the Cholmondeley Room.”
TEAM is an independent and apolotical educational foundation, which aims to enable young people to act as global citizens and to aspire to leadership roles within their communities.
The group were given a private tour of Parliament, and also attended a private talk given by Lord Teverson – a current member of the House of Lords and Liberal Democrat Lords spokesperson for Energy and Climate Change.
Karine continued, “Lord Teverson talked about his passion for the environment and urged attendees to take an active part in fighting against global warming.
“He also talked about his interest in international affairs, notably he warned of American nationalistic tendencies and stressed the importance of a more unified, stronger, more independent Europe to protect European countries especially East-European ones from the threat of Russia.
“He stated that brave Ukrainian soldiers were not currently only fighting for Ukraine, but for the whole of Western countries too, in standing up against the aggression of Russia.
“However, he also mentioned that when the war would eventually be over, it would be necessary to try and build bridges with Russia again and carefully let it reintegrate with Europe.
“Lord Teverson also talked about the need for more diversification within the Parliament in terms of welcoming more women and more people from ethnic backgrounds so that all communities would have a voice in British politics.
“To this end, he urged young people to take a more active role in politics, by joining a local political party of their choice but with a chance of winning an election to make a difference.”
Karine, a French citizen with settled status in the UK, was invited to take part in the event in her capacity as Chartered Linguist in Education and Translation, an active member of the Chartered Institute of Linguists in London, an Associate Member of the Association of Translation Companies and member of the European-Atlantic Movement.
She is an expert in educational matters, foreign affairs, working as a language consultant for the MoD and the Foreign Office and being an approved translator & interpreter of the French Consulate in London.
Through her company, she provides certified translations in multi languages of legal and commercial documents for international law firms, businesses, NGOs and governmental organisations.
