DOROTHY House Charity is appealing for information after an increase in fly tipping at their Melksham store.
Staff returned to work at the shop on Tuesday this week to find a bed, a television, a chest of drawers and much more. All were in a poor state so were clearly not donations and were dumped in the loading bay, meaning they were unable to gain access for their van.
The shop has a sign clearly displayed at the front informing anyone that donations are not wanted outside of the opening hours. Manager of the Melksham shop, Hugh Morrison said, “We would like someone to come forward with some information about who is doing this as it is a regular occurrence now. I urge anyone who knows who is doing this to tell the local police so it is stopped.
“It is such an inconvenience and deliberate fly tipping. The items left were in such a bad state that it is clear they were not donations. It costs us money to remove the items as well as time as it means some of our staff members are tied up for hours dealing with what rubbish we have been left with. This fly tipping happens on a regular basis, but this was by far the worst example. We don’t offer donations outside of opening hours as it is a fire risk leaving things lying around. If we had a fire it would be worse than just time and money lost, we would lose the whole shop!”
Anyone with information about the fly tipping can call Wiltshire Police on 101.
