A Melksham couple who run a hiking company have been awarded bronze at a regional tourism awards ceremony.
Alison and David Howell are the founders of Foot Trails, a hiking tours and walking holidays company. They have been awarded bronze in the International Tourism category of the Bristol, Bath, Somerset and Gloucestershire Tourism Awards, which were hosted by BBC Radio Bristol presenter Laura Rawlings.
The award was presented to Foot Trails by sponsors Bristol Airport at a glittering ceremony held on 20th November in Bath.
A total of 130 organisations and companies entered the awards this year. Entrants were asked to complete an application form and also received an in-person judging visit.
Foot Trails was founded in 2002 and has created over 1,000 miles of hiking trails throughout South West England, using local paths and tracks. The company creates bespoke hiking trips for guests largely from the USA and Canada. Each guest stays in a handpicked country inn and enjoys hiking trails that feature historic sites, churches and eateries along the way.
Alison and David said, “We’re overjoyed to win this prestigious award and to be named in tourism’s international winners. Foot Trails attract guests from the USA and Canada to our West Country region to enjoy a bespoke hiking trip and to stay in local country inns and this boosts the local economy and supports local jobs. This award is credit to the hard work of our team of seven throughout the last year.”
