Melksham Family of Churches- Freedom from Debt, Hope for the Future

Hope Debt Advice works under the umbrella of Community Money Advice (CMA), a Christian charity committed to supporting churches and communities who have a passion for helping people overcome their money problems. 

“CMA provides all the resources, training and support needed for us to provide free face-to-face advice for the people of Melksham. They say, “Our service will also provide sessions on budgeting, ensuring that our clients remain debt free. Each year, thousands of people from all walks of life, often through no fault of their own, fall into debt. ‘We are all one pay packet away from debt.’ It is easy to put bills, letters, and final demands into a drawer and hope it will go away! Unfortunately, it doesn’t, but there are organisations like Hope Debt who can help. 

“Hope Debt Melksham has been going for six years. We meet every Thursday between 10.00am and 12.00 noon at the United Reform Church. Just by saying “we will contact your creditors “lifts a burden that may have affected our clients emotionally, causing depression and despair. As the process continues over time, we see people grow in confidence, come in with a smile and realise that they can have hope for the future. 

“We maintain close links with the Food Bank and other services, receive regular grants from local charities and are well supported by our local churches. We have heard it said ”oh it’s free so it can’t be any good” This is certainly not the case. Our service is free, but is paid for by the local community. We have had many successes and helped many to become debt free.
