NHS Blood and Transplant service is urgently appealing for existing blood donors to make and keep an appointment in the run up to Christmas.
This will help make sure local hospitals have enough blood this Christmas.
Date: 24.12.2018 . Venue: Spencer Sports and Social Club, Beanacre Road, Melksham. Times: 10.30am to 2.30pm
The service says, “Donors should make an appointment rather than walking into a session. Currently, only around 55% of the appointments are full. Every potential donation could save up to three lives.
“NHS Blood and Transplant needs existing donors to make and keep an appointment to give blood before Christmas. Donations can drop in December, as more appointments go missed or unfilled.
“Donors who need to cancel their appointment are being asked to give at least three days’ notice, so the slot can be given to someone else.
“If you can’t find an appointment please check 24 hours beforehand as we often have last minute cancellations.
“Existing blood donors are being prioritised for appointments in the run up to and over Christmas so that NHS Blood and Transplant can collect the right amount of blood that patients need at this critical time of year.
“New donors who have registered and not yet donated, are being asked to make an appointment for the new year.”
