TO counteract the huge amount of disappointment at the cancellation of the Annual Melksham Gardeners’ Flower and Produce Show, an alternative virtual show is being organised to take its place this year.
Melksham Town Council and Melksham Gardeners’ Society are working together to create an online exhibition of the rich array of produce being harvested across Melksham this summer. Gardeners across Melksham are invited to send in photographs of their flowers, fruit and vegetables grown in the Melksham area, and all entries will be displayed on the town council’s Facebook page throughout September.
Barbara Cropp, chairman of Melksham Gardeners’ Society said, “It was a real shame to have to cancel the show this year, but it is great that everyone will still have a chance to share what they’ve been growing this summer by photographs instead. It is a great way to celebrate everyone’s hard work and we are really excited to see the results.”
As well as recognising the impressive harvests of gardeners in Melksham, the annual show usually features the awards for the Melksham in Bloom competition which the town council run every July. This year without the awards ceremony, the town council has been featuring photographs of the gardens on their Facebook page.
Community development officer Miriam Zaccarelli said, “There have been so many positive comments on the pictures. Linda De Santiz has done a great job capturing the beautiful gardens in her photos and people have really enjoyed seeing them every day. It’s great that we will be able to continue to share pictures through the virtual gardeners’ show in September, because we know Melksham is full of incredibly keen gardeners.”
The categories and entry details for the virtual show are all available on the town council website, www.melkshamtown.co.uk. For more information contact Miriam on 07865 065925 or email miriamzaccarelli@melksham-tc.gov.uk
