A FIVE year-old girl from Melksham has made it through to the final round of the international beauty pageant Face Of The Globe.
Aaliya Green has been invited to take part in the final heat of the competition which will take place in Gatwick after her mum sent her photograph to the organisers. If Aaliya is successful, she will compete in the grand final which is held in Disneyland Paris.
Aaliya’s mum, Trina Kandola said, “I saw something about the contest and did a little bit more research about it. It’s not like the usual American-style beauty pageants; they don’t have a swimwear round and it’s all about confidence rather than what you look like. I wouldn’t want her to do anything too over the top, I don’t believe in that and she’s far too young.
“When I first asked Aaliya if she would like to send an application, she wasn’t sure. But when she found out that the final was in Disneyland, she soon changed her mind. I told her we would give it a go and if she didn’t get through it didn’t matter. But then we received an e-mail to say her application had been successful which was brilliant.
“She is quite shy so it’s been brilliant for her confidence. She’s been walking up and down practising her walk, it’s very sweet.”
The competition supports the children’s charity, Rainbow Child Foundation, which helps children worldwide. Trina said, “Aaliya is really pleased to be raising money for the charity and has set up a fundraising page. She is also planning various events to raise extra funds.
“For the opening round Aaliya will wear a simple outfit, just black jeans or leggings and t-shirt. Then for the second round she will wear a party dress, but it must not be a ball gown or full length. They ask the younger competitors not to wear any fake tan, make-up, false nails or nail polish and their hair should be is as natural as possible. They are also not allowed to wear high heels. She is very excited but know’s that whatever happens, we are very proud of her.”
