A LOCAL girl has had 14 inches of her hair cut and has raised over £100 for the Little Princess Trust, after being inspired to help young people who have cancer.
Ellie Williams, 10, has donated her hair to the Little Princess Trust, which provides free real hair wigs to children and young people who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment or other conditions.
After watching a television show about a girl who had lost her hair during cancer treatment, Ellie says she was inspired to help. Ellie explained, “It made me realise how sad and traumatising it could be to lose your hair.
“I decided then that I wanted to do something to help, I decided to grow my hair long enough to donate to the Little Princess Trust.
“I felt a bit nervous at first but once I sat down in the chair to have the haircut, I felt confident that I was doing a good thing.”
The Little Princess Trust is one of the largest charity funders of childhood cancer research in the UK. Since 2016, they have given funding to more than 100 clinical trials and projects looking to find kinder and more effective treatments for all childhood cancers.
Praising Ellie, her mum, Katie Williams said, “I am very proud of Ellie for donating her hair. It took a lot of patience to get to the point where her hair was long enough, but it was something she really wanted to do. I hope this small act of kindness can help give some hope to someone who has lost their hair at such a young age.”
Ellie has plans to keep on fundraising and helping those in need. She said, “I want to do even more; I would like to do a sponsored silence and a bake sale later in the year and I am looking to support Macmillan and Cancer Research.
“I feel very proud of myself for doing a good thing and helping a child with cancer.
