COMPETITION winners were given their prizes at a special last week hosted by Melksham Goes Wild.
At last year’s Melksham Food and River Festival last year, Melksham Goes Wild – the new local group committed to raising awareness about the biodiversity and ecological crisis and how everyone can do their bit to help – ran a photo competition for children.
The competition invited participants to identify 10 species of insects in photographs taken by Melksham Goes Wild member, Evelyn Stewart.
“We had an under 10 category,” said Liz Jarvis from Melksham Goes Wild, “and there were 10 winners in total from that group – all picked from a draw as a lot of children got them all right!
“There was only one winner from the senior category, 11-year old Jasmine Mulligan, who won a bug hotel made and kindly donated by Dave King.”
At a special presentation ceremony last week, the younger children were awarded a creepie crawlies book by Ladybird book.
The winning children were: Amelia Vennell (age 5), Kacper Kozera (5), Ivy Clarke (5), Jacob Wright (9), Joshua and Maria Sankey (9 and 8), Robyn Illman (7), Austin Newman (9), Jacob Ives (5), Bella-Rose Raikes (6) and Jasmine Mulligan (11) in the senior category.
