A Melksham Guide has been chosen to represent the South-West at International Camp 2014 – if she can raise the funding needed.
Maisie Marchant, 14, who attends Melksham Oak School has been chosen to attend the event in Ireland in August next year if she can raise £900.
She has been involved with the Guides since she was just five years old when she was in Rainbows. She has continued throughout and is now a Ranger for the Melksham & District Guides.
To help raise the £900 necessary she is hoping to stage a series of fundraising events including a quiz night, coffee morning and more. Maisie said, “I am a bit nervous about trying to raise the money but I think I can do it. It won’t be easy to get the amount to go to Ireland but I am determined to do it and I think that if I put everything into it then I can do it.
“I am the only girl from the region who will be going but I have been in touch with others from around the country who also have to raise the money and we have been sharing ideas on how to reach our target.” To kickstart Maisie’s fundraising, a coffee morning has been arranged for Saturday 19th October at the Guides HQ, Bath Road, Melksham from 10.00am onwards. The coffee morning will include a book and bric-a-brac sale.
