OVER 300 runners signed up for the 11th year of the Wiltshire 10 road race, which got under way in Melksham on Sunday 12th February.
The Wiltshire 10 road race covers a 10-mile course, which starts at King George V Park before heading through rural Wiltshire, looping around Lacock, following the river Avon and then back to finish in Melksham.
Organisers said, “Leading the field home was Simon Nott of Calne Running Club to claim his third victory in this race, covering the undulating 10-mile course in a time of 53 minutes and one second, ahead of Peter Grist of Team Bath and Nick Roberts of Bristol & West AC.
“In the ladies’ race, Alexandra Stainthorpe of Calne Running Club was racing over the ten-mile distance for the first time and cruised to victory in an impressive 61 minutes and 57 seconds, ahead of Victoria Ratcliffe of Somer AC and Laura Parsonage of Team Bath.
“All finishers received a specially-minted Wiltshire Bustard medal and cake. It is hoped that £2,000 has been raised for young person’s charity, Youth Action Wiltshire, and all of the remaining cakes were passed on to the Melksham Food Bank.”
Age group awards went to: MV40 – Andrew Drake of Bristol & West AC; FV40 – Francesca Rawlings of Clevedon AC; MV50 – Martin Crane of Bearbrook Running Club; FV50 – Wendy Nichols of Cirencester AC; MV60 – Paul Reddaway of Ware Joggers; FV60 – Debbie Ellis of Avon Valley Runners.
