MELKSHAM Library is to celebrate being open for 50 years by having a celebration evening on Tuesday 16th September.
The celebration will see current and previous staff members of staff as well as volunteers and supporters come together for a celebration that includes food and drink. The evening which starts at 7.00pm at the library itself will be followed by a talk on the history of the pubs in Melksham by Michael Marshman, previously Melksham’s librarian, and now the county local studies librarian.
The event marks 50 years to the day that the library opened in Lowbourne, having first opened its doors on 16th September 1964.
Basil Nankivell the community librarian for Melksham said, “The first half-hour is for former staff to reminisce together, and the talk, which will start at around 7.30pm, is open to the general public.
“We are very pleased to have support from Sainsbury’s for the food and drink for the event.”
