A Melksham resident has completed a skydive to raise funds for the MND Association, following his wife’s diagnosis with motor neurone disease earlier this year.
Stephen Campbell undertook the skydive to raise both funds and awareness for motor neurone disease (MND) after his wife, Claire, was diagnosed with the condition in April.
MND is a rare, progressive neurological disorder that affects the brain and nerves, causing symptoms such as muscle wasting, paralysis and emotional changes. It is a life-shortening illness with no cure.
Stephen and his former work colleague, Rhiannon Dilloway, completed their skydive on 12th October at Old Sarum Airfield in Salisbury, raising over £2,000 through their JustGiving page.
Reflecting on the experience, Stephen said, “The jump went really well, and I achieved what I set out to do. I can’t cure my wife’s disease, but I can raise money to fund research for a cure and raise awareness to help her and others battling this awful condition.”
Claire said, “It was an amazing and emotional day, with lots of love and support from family and friends. So far, we’ve raised over £2,000, most of which will go to the MND Association.
“A small portion will go to Dorothy House, where I’ve been receiving complementary therapies like massage, acupuncture, and reflexology. The remainder will help cover the costs of making adaptations to our home to accommodate my symptoms.
“I consider myself extremely fortunate that my form of MND is slow-progressing, but for others, the journey can be very different,” Claire added.
