LOCAL photographer Andy York and his wife Christine have thanked the people of Melksham for helping them raise £100 for the Wiltshire Air Ambulance with their contributions to ‘Melksham Memories’, a collection of old photographs of Melksham.
People in Melksham have been donating old photographs of Melksham to be copied, with prints and greetings cards being sold to raise money for the Wiltshire Air Ambulance.
Christine said, “It started a few years ago when someone kindly donated some slides of old Melksham for Andy to make copies of. Since then we have sold printed copies in the shop and donated the profits to the Wiltshire Air Ambulance.
“Since then, it’s expanded with more and more people bringing in their photographs of old Melksham from as far back as the late 1800s and so the collection grew.
“We are always looking for pictures of old Melksham, especially carnival pictures. It’s lovely to see the history of the town and how it has developed over the years.
“We wanted to donate the money to the indispensable Wiltshire Air Ambulance because of the fantastic work they do and we know that several Melksham people have needed their services.
“We would like to say a big thank you to everyone who has donated their photographs for us to use and to those who have bought copies. With your contributions, you have helped us raise £100 for a great local charity.
“This is an on-going project so we still welcome photographs and would love to hear from you if you have an interesting picture showing Melksham’s history.
“We would love to donate much, much more money to this amazing charity so please dig around in your drawers and cupboards for those wonderful old pictures.
“All pictures are electronically scanned and returned safe and sound to their owners in their original condition.”
