Joseph & The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is coming to Melksham!
The popular musical is being staged by Melksham Music and Drama in September and they are looking for cast members to join the show. Auditions are being held this month including for the parts of Joseph, Benjamin, some brothers and the vocal chorus.
Producer, Geoff Mitcham said, “The club was formed in 1969 as Melksham Comedy Club and has been entertaining the people of Melksham ever since, with a panto most years and various variety shows.
“Over the years we have performed many musicals such as Calamity Jane, Anything Goes, Copacabana, Oklahoma and Grease but the one show that has always been out of our grasp Is Joseph, mainly because licences are rarely issued to adult groups.
“However, on the 50th anniversary of the show in 2018 it was decided to offer a limited number of licences and MMAD were lucky to get one for a performance in 2019. Sadly the pandemic appeared and it had to be cancelled and rescheduled to 2020 but rehearsals couldn’t start early enough and we thought it would never happen, especially as the professional show went on tour in 2021/2.
“Luckily, we were offered another licence when the tour ended and it will now be performed during September this year. The show is being directed by John Clark.
“Although we auditioned back in 2019, some cast members have left us and new ones have come in and others can’t do it so we have to audition again for some of the parts including Joseph, Benjamin, some brothers and the vocal chorus. So if you fancy having a go, come to the Rachel Fowler Centre on 22nd February after 8pm to talk about it. Auditions are on 1st March at the Rachel Fowler Centre at 7.30pm.”
Performances are taking place on 14th 15th 16th September and if any local businesses want to sponsor the show or if anyone want more information, please contact Geoff on 07779 330042.
