MELKSHAM Independent News readers have donated over £1,700 to two local charities.
The money, totalling £1,729.85, has been collected this year from donations made by readers wanting to share personal news in the ‘Family Messages’ column.
£917.35 has been raised for the Rotary Club of Melksham thanks to cash donations made in the Market Place office. And £812.50 has been raised for Dorothy House Hospice Care via online donations made through the Melksham News JustGiving page and from donations received via local funeral directors.
Accepting the cheque on behalf of the Rotary Club of Melksham, Norman Drake said, “It’s very generous of the Melksham Independent News to donate this money to us, We can always find good uses for it. I can’t thank Melksham News readers enough.”
Representing Dorothy House Hospice Care, deputy manager of the charity’s furniture shop on Church Street, Shirl Turner said, “This money will go directly to Dorothy House – every little counts to keep the local hospice going.
“At Christmas-time you remember all your family and people that have passed – I think that it is really nice that people still continue to support Dorothy House even long after their friends and family have passed away.”
Ian Drew, editor of Melksham News, said, “Thank you to all our readers who have contributed to this fantastic amount. It is a pleasure to support both of these local charities who do such important work in the community.”
