These are exciting times for Melksham Oak Community School.
Owen Vince, deputy head said, “Since moving into our state-of-the-art facility in 2010, the school has continued to go from strength to strength as we pursue our stated intention of becoming a great school.
“Our aim to be a centre of excellence for learning in every aspect of school life, has led us to incorporate into our provision increasing amounts of alternative opportunities which are aimed at benefitting the widest range of students possible.
“So, when we were approached during last year by both Chelsea FC and Lewis Moody’s Mad Dog Sport about the prospect of working with us to set up post-16 sporting academy provision in football and rugby, it was not a case of ‘if’ we could make it happen, more ‘how’.
“The prospect for us of enhancing our status as a centre of excellence for learning in physical education with two such successful partners was of immediate interest to us.
“But it’s more than that. For us, it’s about creating opportunities for young people in our region to be able to continue their studies to a high level within a first-class learning environment; to develop their skills and abilities in a sport in which they already perform and compete at a high level.
“This will in turn offer progression into employment or higher education for which there is currently a lack of provision, in addition to providing opportunities to continue their sporting careers to a higher level.
“Our Sixth Form Open Evening takes place at the school on Thursday 20th November, and interested students are invited to come along from 7.00 to 8.30pm, when there will be a chance for you to find out more about these programs, to speak to staff and to view our outstanding learning facilities at first hand. We are looking forward to meeting you then.”
