Year 9 Design Technology students at Melksham Oak took part in the Design Ventura competition for the Design Museum in London.
Kirstie Jones, Head of Design Technology said, They all worked very hard to create a new product on the theme of ‘change’. They had to turn a milk bottle into a new innovative product.
“They completed research – this entailed a trip to London to the V & A Museum and Science Museum, Design Museum shop online and customer surveys. This helped them to create different designs which they developed and modelled into a final idea which was presented to our four judges (dragons).
“Thank you to Mrs Lambert who challenged the pupils and questioned the designs, and they were able to answer them well. Mr Grainger our DT technician who asked them technical questions about aspects of their design. Mrs Southwood who was our consumer advisor and Mrs Jones as Head of Design and Technology.
“The winning design which is now entered into the national competition is a mood changing light in the shape of a lily. Well done to Molly Kerr, Matthew Bayley, James Black and Oliver Davis, we now have to wait until the end of November to see if we have reached the final.”
