Children from a Melksham primary school were recently inspired by an interactive storytelling workshop.
More than 165 children from Years 1 to 6 at River Mead School took part in workshops led by Story Shed, designed to inspire creativity, reading, writing and performance through hands-on activities.
The free workshops were part of the Sham Jam Festival and were held at King George V Playing Fields.
Sue Mortimer, a volunteer at River Mead who attended a workshop alongside some children, said, “It was great to see the enthusiasm and the engagement of Year 5 and 6 children. One of the organisers said that she was so impressed with how polite every child there had been. Every one of them had said thank you as, at the end, they received a leaflet on how to make a comic strip, and she said this had never happened before.”
Headteacher Louise Harrison said, “River Mead would like to extend its sincere thanks to the Melksham Sham Jam Festival team and Story Shed for inviting our children to take part in such engaging and inspiring workshops. Experiences like these help nurture a love of reading, writing, and creativity, and the positive impact on our children was evident throughout the day.”
