MELKSHAM Town Council is throwing a party to celebrate the grand opening of the new splashpad in King George V playing field early next month.
The much-anticipated waterplay facility, located outside the park pavilion, should be open to the public on Saturday 27th July with the official opening on Saturday 3rd August with a beach-themed party.
As well as access to the new splashpad, there will be bouncy castles; Punch and Judy puppet shows; beach-themed sports provided by Active Trowbridge; fairground rides and games; music; slush puppies and ice cream, and hot food for sale; deckchairs; and seaside-themed photo boards to pose with.
The town council will also be giving away 250 commemorative refillable water bottles to mark the splashpad’s opening.
Community engagement manager for the town council, Debbie Bentley said, “The town council is thrilled to deliver on our promise of a splashpad for the town’s park. This is a fantastic facility for Melksham that is sure to be enjoyed by many children for years to come!
“The park pavilion will also be open on the day providing access to toilets and baby-changing facilities. And the town council will be running a tuck shop from the pavilion, offering refreshments and snacks, which will be open for the summer whilst the splashpad is operational. Picnic benches will also be available, so people are welcome to come along to the opening party with their own picnics.”
The splashpad is one of many improvements the town council is making to the park this summer. Other projects in development include a community sensory garden, and outdoor gym equipment, which should be available to use by the end of July.
Proposals for future improvements include an all-new play area located next to the splashpad, an adventure area, café, sports area and a nature area.
The splashpad grand opening party takes place on Saturday 3rd August, from 11am to 4pm. The splashpad is expected to be open to the public from Saturday 27th July.
