A RECORD amount of money was raised for The Children’s Society at last month’s Melksham Open Gardens Event.
Over £1,500 was raised for the charity, whilst visitors were given the opportunity to explore 18 gardens in the town.
“It was a wonderful and joyous afternoon. People were glad to be out and socialising again,” said Lesley Windebank, one of the organisers. “I believe this was the first Melksham social event since our release from lockdown. The weather was kind to us - no dramatic heatwave or rain showers.
“There were 18 gardens to view, many within easy walking distance of the Market Place. There was an abundance of cakes and scones donated, which were delicious. A small army of willing helpers was brought in to run the tea tent and the kitchen.
“Most importantly, we took well over £1,500 which makes up for not being able to hold this event last year. Our expenses are minimal so there is a record amount to give to The Children’s Society. I would like to thank all the gardeners, all the helpers and all the visitors. Without their hard work and generous contributions this event would have fallen flat. Thank you again.”
