Melksham’s eleventh parkrun took place on Saturday in pleasant sunshine with nearly a hundred people taking part.
Runners of all ages enjoy a course that’s attracted nothing but praise from locals and visitors alike, many particularly commenting on the park setting and the riverside route.
Organisers say, “As well as support from Melksham Town Council, Melksham Without Parish Council and Wiltshire Council, we have been supported by several local businesses and very pleasantly surprised by how readily established park users have welcomed parkrun and expressed their delight at seeing the park used more and for different activities. Many of these are Melksham residents who have lived here for many years and brought their children to the park when they were young.
“Parkrun is absolutely free, run by over 20 all-important volunteers every Saturday and open to everyone, from serious runners, to those just wanting to keep or get fit. There’s no pressure, just a lot of friendly people enjoying green space and perhaps a coffee in the pavilion afterwards. There are hundreds of parkruns taking place all over the country at 9.00am on Saturday mornings and to get a taste of ours go to www.parkrun.org.uk/ melksham.
“If you want to give it a go just sign up, print off your barcode and turn up. You don’t have to sign in or report to anyone when you arrive, just start running, jogging or walking the 5 kilometres together at 9.00am and show your barcode at the end if you want an ‘official’ time. If you want to help, and we always need volunteers, then just click on ‘Volunteer.’”
