This summer’s Party in the Park will give local performers of all ages the chance to showcase their talents. Among them will be three acts from Melksham Oak Community School.
With their distinctive sound that merges musical ability and raw energy, Hangar 18 is a punk rock band that will get the crowd jumping at Melksham’s biggest outdoor music event in July. The band is made up of three 16 year-olds currently studying for their GCSEs; lead guitarist Ayrton Bramley, drummer/singer Euan McCaughan and bassist Kieran White.
Also appearing will be Courtney Buchanan, a sixth form student at the school. Courtney performs regularly at local venues and in 2012 came to the attention of local producer Mel Austin, with whom she recorded and released her debut album in 2013. Courtney has already performed at the O2 arena when she reached the grand final of the 2013 TeenStar competition, the UK’s biggest search for teenage and pre-teen singing acts, only to lose out to X Factor finalist Luke Friend. As well as studying for her A-levels, she is now working with Mel on her second album.
Another talented student from Melksham Oak is 15-year-old Heather Kerr. Heather began her singing career as part of a duo performing at a local pub’s open mic night but now performs as a solo artist. Singing her own songs she has also found success in the national TeenStar competition and is currently through to the regional finals.
Melksham’s Party in the Park takes place on Saturday 18th July at the town’s King George V playing field.
