PUPILS from three Melksham Primary schools joined over 5,000 pupils from other schools for a concert by the Young Voices Choir in Birmingham last month.
St George’s Semington, St Mary’s Broughton Gifford and Seend CE Primary School joined pupils from across the country in the ‘largest school choir in the world’, at the Resorts World Arena in Birmingham.
The choir performed to friends and family alongside special guests, Heather Small from the band M People and acclaimed violinist, Anna Phoebe.
A spokesperson said, “St George’s Semington, St Mary’s Broughton Gifford, and Seend CE Primary School all joined the Young Voices Choir for the event on the 9th January. The choir is renowned for being the largest school choir in the world.
“Young Voices first began in 1992 with a ‘10,000 male-voice sing together.’ The choir consisted of some of Wales’ most popular performers including, Tom Jones, Dame Gwyneth Jones and Dennis O’Neil. Since then, Young Voices have gone on to win numerous awards including three Guinness World Records.”
Principal of the three schools, Candida Hutchinson said, “We’re honoured to have had the privilege to sing as part of the choir in Birmingham this year. Experiences like this help our students build confidence, self-motivation, and the ability to communicate and work as part of a team.
“Thank you to all of the staff, pupils, and organisers for making it a day to remember; we hope to be back next year!”
