MELKSHAM’S own community radio station continues to grow after it recently moved into a new studio, had new equipment installed and also prepares to become an FM radio station.
Melksham Town Sound operates 24 hours a day and is the brainchild of local teenager, William Bridger. He has recently moved the radio station into a new studio on Sandridge Road and is looking to further expand the station by becoming available on FM.
Currently Melksham Town Sound is only available online with a current listener audience of around 800 per month. The station has allowed local youngsters with a keen interest in radio to give presenting a try. Currently there are nine presenters who have a specific time slot, so listeners can listen in to their favourite presenters.
William said, “We are still in the planning stages in terms of becoming an FM radio station as we need to locate where the antenna will go. However, we are hopeful that it can go at the Forest Community Centre thanks to the help of Vic Oakman and we aim to have it up and running in June for a trial, with an official start time around July.
“We have also moved into a new studio that is more suitable for running a 24-hour-day radio station and had equipment previously used by the BBC installed which provides better quality.
“We are also hoping to start a regular news item thanks to the Melksham News which will include audio interviews to complement the news articles already in print.”
