A team of Melksham Railway User Group members, led by vice-chair Graham Ellis, travelled to Seaton in Devon on Sunday 28th April, to remember John Money, who died last autumn.
John, the MRUG treasurer, was one of MRUG’s founding members. He had a long interest in railway matters, and in addition to rail services at Melksham, supported the Seaton Tramway. During the visit, John’s ashes were scattered by the track, and his favourite tram now has a commemorative nameplate.
John was well known as a local weather observer and wildlife enthusiast, and his natural garden was a source of conversation in the Forest area. Since retiring, he became a driver for the Seaton tramway and spent many weekends there.
The group say, “Sadly, in spite of the railway connections, travel to Seaton had to be by car, so MRUG pressure is still vital to promote additional weekend services, something John would have approved of.
“You can help continue John’s work by joining the group at the next meeting on 22nd May at the Town Hall (starting at 7.30pm).”
