Two Melksham men, Darren Phillips and Luke Dark, completed the Devizes Half Marathon on Sunday 2nd April to raise money for Wiltshire Air Ambulance and in the memory of Darren’s sister, Michelle Phillips, who died on 9th April 2004 in a road traffic collision in Devon aged 26.
Both Darren and Luke are members of the Forest Fitness Group and completed the race in just over two hours.
Parents of Darren, John and Sandra Phillips said, “Our thanks to Luke, for supporting Darren. Also, many thanks to Darren for all the races he has run, and is still running for Michelle and WAA, from his proud mum and dad.”
Last year, the Phillips family reached the milestone total of £20,000 raised for the Wiltshire Air Ambulance through various fundraising events including Darren’s running challenges. When reaching this total, the family decided to stop publicly fundraising but said they would continue to support the charity as a family.
Luke, who was involved in a head on collision with a truck and sustained multi-injuries in 2013, including a traumatic brain injury, completed his first virtual London Marathon on Sunday 2nd October last year, running 26 miles around Melksham. He laced up his trainers again to take on the Devizes Half Marathon.
