THE SCOUTS will deliver festive cheer in Melksham this Christmas, as they have now set up special postboxes to help deliver your Christmas cards and greetings.
Following on from the success of last year, Melksham Scout Group will be again running their own Christmas post service. The Scouts will help deliver your festive cards to any address within the Melksham, Bowerhill or Berryfield areas.
All you have to do is write the address, clearly, on the envelope and drop it into one of the special postboxes that are in shops all across the town. There is no need to attach a stamp but you are asked to donate at least 20p per card – that’s less than half the price of a second class stamp. The last posting date is Wednesday 18th December.
You can find a Scouts’ postbox at the following Melksham locations; Gamingalore, Costa Coffee, ArtHouse Café, Flowers in Focus, Queensway Chapel, Cooper Tires, Melksham Town Hall, Tops Hair Salon, Melksham Library, Scissors, Cobblers Bench, Tourist Information Centre, Card and News Centre, Candy Jax and the Scout Hut near Waitrose.
Then, on Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd of December, the Scout hut near Waitrose will be turned into a mini postal sorting office and your cards will be delivered by Scouts, Beavers and Cubs later that week.
Dawn Toop from Melksham Scouts said, “We decided to do the post again as we had such a fantastic response last year in what was our first time and a lot of people have been asking if we would be doing it again as it saves them a lot of money, plus they like seeing the children delivering the cards.
“We raised just over £350 and it went towards a trip for the children. This year’s money will be going towards the upkeep of the hall (new windows and doors) and the funds from the Christmas fayre will also be going towards that also.
“The service hasn’t changed, we are still covering Melksham Bowerhill and Berryfields.”
The Scout Christmas Fayre will take place on Saturday 30th November from 11.00am-3.00pm at the Scout Hut (opposite Riverside Club, entrance to Waitrose car park). Lots of things to buy and things to do; plenty of refreshments and including a visit from Father Christmas.
