MELKSSHAM’S Choral Music Society are back to Rachel Fowler Centre each Thursday to practice for their forthcoming concert on Saturday 14th December.
In celebration of Benjamin Britten’s 100 year Centenary, new conductor Paul Badley has chosen ‘Rejoice in the Lamb,’ for the society to perform this Christmas, along with Christmas carols old and new. Britten’s music is set to poet Christopher Smart’s words.
“It’s been a lovely summer and now we’ve got to knuckle down to Britten!” current chair, Sue Lamprell says. Conductor Paul describes the work as ‘exciting with rhythmic challenges.’ One of his reasons for choosing the work is that each part has a short solo.
The society says, “Any new members are welcome as always. Rehearsals take place on Thursdays 7.30pm-9.15pm at the Rachel Fowler Centre. And to get you all into the Christmas spirit, put the concert, 14th December, 7.30pm at the United Church, Melksham, in your diaries!”
