Melksham to plant 200 trees for fallen soldiers of WW1

MELKSHAM will plant 200 trees next year to commemorate soldiers from the local area who lost their lives during World War 1.

The trees are being donated by the Woodland Trust and will be planted in the old George Ward playing fields as part of a nationwide project that will see millions of trees planted across the country to commemorate the centenary of the end of World War 1.

Wiltshire has been invited to plant 10,000 trees, one for each soldier from Wiltshire  who lost their life during the war. 185 servicemen from Melksham and Melksham Without died during World War 1.

The planting will take place during November 2018, 100 years since the end of World War 1, and schools and local groups are being encouraged to get involved.
