MELKSHAM Town FC will play Bradford Town in the final of the Wiltshire Senior Cup tonight (Wednesday 23rd April) at Chippenham Town FC with a 7.30pm kick off. They are asking fans to get behind the team and help cheer them on to a memorable victory.
The Town who have won the cup six times in their history, are defending champions having beaten Downton in last year’s final.
Looking forward to the game, Melksham Town manager Darren Perrin said, “We’ll have to be at our very best to win the game as Bradford are a good side and have spent a lot of money. They may be in the division below, but they are the Manchester City of the Western League and have signed some top players.
“It’s a great opportunity for the club to become reigning champions which would be a massive achievement and cap off a positive season for the club. We hope lots of people will turn out to support the lads.”
Their local opponents have led the Toolstation League Division One all season and will join Melksham in the premier division next season. The teams met in last year’s competition where Bradford beat Melksham 3-2 after extra-time, only to be removed from the competition for fielding an ineligible player. As a result, Melksham was reinstated and went on to win the competition.
Melksham’s route to the final has seen them beat Westbury United, Shrewton United, Highworth Town and Purton. Bradford’s route to the final saw victories over Supermarine, Trowbridge Town, Pewsey Vale and Bemerton Heath Harlequins.
