MELKSHAM Town Football Club is urging people to come and support them this weekend as they look to create history.
They take on Shepton Mallet at the Conigre on Saturday 6th December at 3pm for a place in the last 32 of FA Vase, a national competition where the final is played at Wembley Stadium.
To help make it as colourful an occasion as possible the first 150 paying adults will receive a free Melksham Town scarf but fans are advised to get to the Conigre early to avoid disappointment.
The match is on the same day as the Melksham Christmas Lights switch-on and Dave Wiltshire, chairman of the football club, thinks it is a great opportunity to enjoy a whole day of entertainment in the town. He said, “It would be great to see as many people in the ground as possible to support the team. I am hoping for around 400 fans to attend and we want to make it as colourful and noisy as possible.
“We have never been any closer than this to Wembley and even though it is still a few rounds away, it would make a huge difference to the club and the players to see lots of people there.
“Being at home on the day of the lights switch-on means there is a chance for people to enjoy both events and hopefully it will be a day to remember for the whole town.”
Melksham has claimed £3,500 in prize money by reaching this stage and will earn another £1,500 if they can see off their Western League opponents on Saturday. Reaching the third round equals their best ever performance of 2007/08 when they lost to Truro City at the same stage.
This year, Melksham Town has beaten Pewsey Vale, Bournemouth Poppies, Highmoor Ibis and Slimbridge.
It is advised to get to the ground early as parking spaces may be limited.
