MELKSHAM woman, Lisa Ellis has been nominated for an Outstanding Volunteer award in the Community Rail Awards 2016.
The annual Community Rail Awards have been running since 2005 and since then have recognised the hard work and dedication of the unsung heroes of the community rail world.
Lisa, who has been a volunteer at TransWilts CRP for ten years said, “Graphic design has always been a passion of mine, and seeing my posters displayed at train stations, or my timetables being used by passengers, is gratifying.
“A nomination for outstanding volunteer in community rail is especially poignant. It’s suggested by those who have first-hand knowledge of just how much effort, and enjoyment, has gone into my work as a volunteer.
“I can’t help but be proud of what TransWilts has accomplished, and if my nomination is a nod that I had even a little bit to do with that success, I am overjoyed.”
Lisa has received support from various people in the rail sector. Paul Johnson, chairman of TransWilts Community Rail Partnership said, “Our organisation has been very fortunate to have Lisa Ellis working in the background and giving freely of her time and design expertise.
“On our limited CRP budget, the contribution of ‘in-house’ volunteer designer is just invaluable. The difference it makes by being able to produce affordable, professional campaigns should never be taken for granted. Therefore I really welcome this opportunity to be able to recognise Lisa’s outstanding contribution to TransWilts and its passenger growth success, by nominating her for this award.”
Mark Hopwood, managing director at Great Western Railway said, “At this year’s GWR Community Rail Conference I picked out TransWilts CRP’s annual report for a comment in my closing remarks. I was very impressed with the quality and style and recommend the approach to other CRPs.
“It was Lisa who gave the report that style and panache, and it is not just the annual report. She is responsible for fantastic design in so many more campaigns and materials. She has given her time and her talent to the CRP and therefore promoting rail travel in Wiltshire to so many projects.
“Lisa has done a tremendous job and really helped bring the many and varied TransWilts promotions to lie. She brings something very special to the TransWilts CRP and I would be delighted to see her hard work celebrated and recognised.”
Lisa will find out whether she has won the award at a gala dinner and presentation evening at The Floral Hall in Southport on Thursday 29th September.
