A Melksham woman recently completed a sponsored crochet, making four blankets in a month in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society.
When the blankets were complete, Susan Chalkley donated them to Mavern House care home in Shaw where her mother, who has dementia, is a resident.
During the challenge, Susan raised £300 for the Alzheimer’s Society, which works to improve the lives of people living with dementia by providing support and funding research whilst advocating for change. Susan’s total is part of the £235,000 raised by volunteers during this challenge nationwide.
Following her fundraising efforts, Susan has been asked to run a craft morning at Mavern House where she hopes this will become a monthly fixture for residents.
Locally, Susan is part of the Busy Bees craft, coffee and chat group, which was formed in 2007 and meets at Bowerhill Village Hall every Friday. She says that some of the crocheting was undertaken whilst at her craft groups.
“New members are always welcome, so if you are interested in partaking in your favourite craft activities whilst making new friends, please contact annfinch@hotmail.com ,” says Susan.
