MELKSHAM woman, Mary-Ann Pickett, has raised nearly £400 for charity by taking part in a sponsored walk in memory of her sister.
Mary-Ann joined hundreds of other fundraisers for the ‘Walk of Life’ on Saturday 11th May, walking 26.2 miles from Bishop Cannings, near Devizes, along the Kennet and Avon canal to the finish line at the Holbourne Museum in Bath.
So far, Mary-Ann has raised £380 for the Forever Friends Appeal, the charity of the Royal United Hospital in Bath. She was walking in memory of her sister, Christine, who died earlier this year.
Speaking to Melksham News, Mary-Ann said, “The event was a great success and the weather was perfect for walking after a cold start. 225 people started at Bishop’s Cannings and we were soon spread out along the canal as the level of fitness was quite varied.
“At Bradford on Avon there was a lunch break and there we were joined by another 200 people who were walking the 10 miles to Bath. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the people of Melksham who have sponsored me, you have all been very kind. The JustGiving link is still active and monies are still coming in. To date the overall figure collected from all walkers has passed £30,000 and we will all benefit at some point. Special thanks to my husband John who has been extremely supportive during my training walks and of course on the day.”
