TWO women from Melksham are set to embark on a challenge of a lifetime by climbing Mount Kilimanjaro.
Ruth Emmett and Helen Wilkinson are to climb to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro – the highest in Africa at 5,895 metres.
Ruth works as a pharmacist at Sainsbury’s, Melksham, and her friend Helen is also a local pharmacist. The climb begins on Sunday 29th September and is expected to take eight days. Ruth and Helen will also be joined by two other friends for the challenge.
The climb is to raise money for Marie Curie Cancer Care as the charity is one close to Ruth’s heart. She said, “The charity means so much to me as my mum, Pauline Emmett, a registered nurse, nursed my nan when she had lung cancer. My mum carried on with Marie Curie nursing for ten years after my grandmother passed away on Christmas Day 1994 and it is just a wonderful charity.
“We are excited and apprehensive about the climb as it is such a huge challenge but we have prepared well, so things should be fine. I have been exercising non-stop, so hopefully the hard work will pay off.
“Our aim is to raise £1,000 so we would appreciate any donations.”
