MELKSHAM Town Council has recruited a community engagement officer to the team, who will provide support to local volunteers, groups and organisations.
Debbie Bentley started in the role earlier this month. Her role will involve raising awareness of local volunteer activities and identifying support mechanisms to enable local volunteers to take forward community-led initiatives; developing strong networks and links between community groups, organisations and service users; and co-ordinating and facilitating community-led activities and action plans.
“We are delighted to have appointed Debbie to this new role” commented Mayor of Melksham, cllr Adrienne Westbrook. “She has a wealth of experience in volunteer co-ordination and fundraising initiatives and I’m sure that she will prove to be an absolute asset to the local community and Melksham Town Council.
“With the cutbacks in local government funding, it is more important than ever that we optimise and support the fantastic voluntary commitment and community spirit that exists within our town and we are sure that Debbie will add significant value to our endeavours in this regard.”
