A BOWERHILL woman is part of the Military Wives Choir is set to join Gareth Malone at a special Prom to commemorate the First World War.
Donna-Kate Wilson from Bowerhill along with three others from the choir are to join the choirmaster at the is to sell-out concert, which is part of the BBC’s annual Proms series, will take place at the Royal Albert Hall on Sunday 3rd August, the eve of the 100th Anniversary of the day Britain entered the war.
In a first for the BBC Proms, the choir will also be joined by life-size puppets from the National Theatre’s production of ‘War Horse’ by Michael Morpurgo. The 100 strong ‘Proms Military Wives Choir’ will be directed by Gareth Malone and made up of singers from 42 different choirs in the Military Wives Choirs Foundation network including Warminster. The choir contains wives, partners and servicewomen from Navy, Royal Marine, Army and RAF families, coming together from military bases across Britain and overseas.
The story of the Proms Military Wives Choir coming together for the commemorative concert is also being made into a two-part documentary, to be shown on the BBC later in the year.
Donna-Kate, musical director of Warminster Military Wives Choir said, “We are honoured to be part of this very special event. It’s really appropriate that the concert will also remember the role that women and music played during the First World War. We have worked so hard to get to this point and are very proud to be representing our choir.”
