THREE women from Melksham are set to take on two 100 kilometre walks in the coming months to raise money for children’s charity Wish Upon a Star.
Shelley Davis, Sue Georgiou and Claire Younger will take part in the London 2 Brighton Challenge in May before taking on the Race to the Stones 100km event in July.
They hope to complete each course in under 20 hours and have started preparing for the event in recent weeks with long walks around the local area with distances ranging from 14 to 27 miles.
This will be the second consecutive year that Shelly and Claire have taken on the London 2 Brighton challenge, having completed the 100km in just over 21 hours last year. Now, they will be joined by Sue and they have doubled their efforts by also signing up to the 100km Race to the Stones event where the route runs from Oxfordshire to Avebury.
Shelley said, “We really enjoyed the London 2 Brighton event last year and it was such a great feeling when we crossed the finishing line so we decided to give it another go. The Race to the Stones event will be the first time we have done that walk but first we will focus on the walk in May.
“This year we have our friend Sue joining us which will be good fun and we would like to finish in under 20 hours if possible. Between the three of us we hope to raise £3,000 for Wish Upon a Star. It is an amazing cause and we want to raise as much as we can. The training is quite time-consuming so we would to thank our wonderful families and especially the grandparents and husbands for helping with the kids to allow us to get the miles in. Also thank you to anyone that has supported or donated to us, it means a lot”
