NOVEMBER and early December has been a busy time for members of Melksham WI with many of their activities having a Christmas flavour.
Gill Arbery, on behalf of Melksham WI reported, “Our speaker at the November meeting was Anne Ewing who showed us how to make sugarcraft decorations for a Christmas cake. There was plenty of chat and hilarity as we compared our efforts to produce a realistic snowman, complete with hat and scarf all made out of icing.
“We all agreed it was a really good way of getting to know each other as we have had such an influx of new members over the past few months.
“A dozen members joined Corsham WI on a Christmas shopping trip to Southampton where we were let loose in the huge West Quays shopping centre. Several others went to the Bath Theatre Royal to see the fantastic production of ‘Fiddler on the Roof’; some to a Jazz Supper at Lowden Garden Centre and the Blitz Ball in the Assembly Hall.
“There have been two WI carol services, one in Corsham for the Grace Methuen Group and a County Federation ‘Christmas Around the World’ in Edington Priory Church. All guaranteed to put us in a festive mood.
“Our bazaar, held on 30th November in the Riverside Club, faced stiff opposition from other Christmas events held on the same day but we still managed to raise over £100 for the Wiltshire Air Ambulance.
“Our first meeting of 2014 will be 15th January when we will be having a demonstration on the ‘Art of Furoshiki’ by Emma Joy, one of our own members.”
Melksham WI meet on the third Wednesday each month at the The Riverside Club, Bath Road, by the Town Bridge, at 7.30pm. Visitors are most welcome so if you want to find out more about the group do come along. Your first visit is free.
