THE Melksham News Cutest Pet competition has been won by five-year old dog, Charlie.

Hundreds of votes were received in the special competition organised to celebrate National Pet Month, which aims to raise awareness of responsible pet ownership and encourage fundraising for the nation’s needy pets.
139 pets in Melksham battled it out to be crowned the cutest but it was spaniel Charlie, owned by couple Shannon Phelan and Scott Maher, who stole the hearts of Melksham News readers.
Charlie’s owners said, “It’s amazing that Charlie has won! We have only had him for about two months – we rescued him from a home in Northampton. He was all skin and bone when we got him, he weighed about 9.9kg, when he should have been at least 14kg.
“Now he’s happy and healthy, and this feels like a great way to celebrate that.”
For winning, Charlie and his owners were presented with a hamper from Furever Friends, a family-run animal care service in Westbury, packed full of treats for Charlie and two bottles of champagne and a box of chocolates for Shannon and Scott.
