NINE year old Millie from Melksham has been spending her time during the numerous lockdowns making videos and learning how to edit them for her YouTube channel – MarvellousMLP.
The videos started off as school projects, during last summer, documenting what she was getting up to as a way of keeping in touch with her school friends.
This soon developed into ‘Millie Makes’ which is an ongoing series of videos showing how to make some of the activity packs that are available from the Wiltshire Scrapstore. Millie’s mum, Zoe, is a volunteer at the Scrapstore and Millie has been attending the art club and make and play sessions since she was a toddler. They are both keen supporters and wanted to help the Scrapstore in someway whilst it has been closed.
Zoe said “I’m very proud of what Millie has been doing in helping to keep the Scrapstore in people’s minds by making these short videos. She even helped develop a new ‘Make your own bauble spiral’ pack which was a huge hit at Christmas!”
Glynis Cosgrove, assistant director added, “Millie has been part of the Scrapstore family since she attended our pre-school craft ‘Make and Play’ sessions. I have been delighted by Millie’s continued creative skills and enthusiasm!
“Millie was instrumental in designing our popular ‘Make Your own Cactus’ kit last year and has become my first port of call when I need advice on any forthcoming packs. ‘Millie Makes’ is the icing on the cake for us! It’s wonderful to see our packs come to life. Millie is a true professional and we are really proud of her. I think Blue Peter has some competition!”
Millie is continuing to make her videos and has many more up her sleeve, especially with Mother’s Day and Easter coming up.
Millie said, “I’m enjoying making my videos and I hope people will carry on watching them and enjoying them as much as me. My dad helped me set up my YouTube channel, MarvellousMLP, and he has been helping me learn the skills to edit my videos. It’s great fun!”
The Wiltshire Scrapstore is currently closed to the public but the staff and volunteers are still working hard behind the scenes. Their website has all the packs that Millie makes along with lots more craft ideas and gifts www.wiltshirescrapstore.org.uk.
