AFTER emphatic wins against Hengrove and Wells City, Melksham Town had shown no sign of losing their winning streak, with two more convincing wins at home.
Manager Kieran Baggs has praised his team for their best performance yet after a impressive win at home to Bridport. The team has also found success beating Mere to progress to the next round of the Wiltshire FA Senior Cup.
Kieran said, “The cup match against Mere was a great opportunity to get players back from injury on the pitch and to also give time to some, and experiment with the under 18s. The boys that did step in did really well and gave me a real headache for selection ahead of the match with Bridport.
“We play Chippenham Town in the next round of the Wiltshire Senior Cup and this will be another opportunity to play around with the line-up and give more players time on the pitch.”
Up next for Town was the league match against Bridport at home. “The game against Bridport probably saw the goal of the season from Gary Higdon and it was the best performance of the team so far this season.
“As a manager it was great to see the team working together and showing a real team spirit, especially when they were down to 10 men when vice captain Mike Perrott was sent off.
“It was a great defensive display and there was potential for more goals. Watching the team, it felt like everything was clicking into place.
“As for Perrott being sent off, it was a bit harsh, but these things happen. He would say himself that he could’ve been a bit more sensible with that second tackle. But he has been fantastic this season, so none of the lads will hold it against him, I’m sure we can brush this one under the carpet.
“This is four games now where we have not conceded a goal, so things are looking good. This has been a transitional period and I’ve been consistently telling people that there is nothing to worry about.
“The fans have been tremendous this season and have really supported me as the new manager, you can’t fault them. And the support at the games has been fantastic. We had over 300 people at the Bridport match and the atmosphere was incredible.
“Next, we are up against Shepton Mallet who are flying in the league, so we will need to be at our best at home to come away with some points.”
Town in 5th
With 14 games played this season, Town currently sit in fifth place in the league, with 25 points. Street and Buckland Athletic sit at the top of the league, with 29 points and a game in hand.
