TWO box office hits – Operation Mincemeat and Elizabeth is Missing – are coming to the Assembly Hall in October in the latest offering from Melksham Seniors’ Monday Movies.
Operation Mincemeat is showing on Monday 3rd October at 2pm. It’s 1943. The Allies are determined to break Hitler’s grip on occupied Europe, and plan to launch an all-out assault on Sicily; but they face an impossible challenge – how to protect the invasion force from potential annihilation. It falls to two remarkable intelligence officers, Ewen Montagu (Colin Firth) and Charles Cholmondeley (Matthew Macfadyen) to dream the most inspired and improbable disinformation strategy of the war – centred on the most unlikely of secret agents: a dead man.
Operation Mincemeat is the extraordinary and true story of an idea that hoped to turn the tide for the Allies – taking impossibly high risks, defying logic, and testing the nerves of its creators to breaking point.
Elizabeth is Missing will be showing on Monday 17th October, again at 2pm.
Returning to television for the first time in nearly three decades, two-time Academy Award-winner Glenda Jackson stars as a woman desperately trying to solve two mysteries as she declines ever deeper into dementia, in an adaptation of Emma Healey’s acclaimed novel.
Playing feisty grandmother Maud Horsham, who lives alone despite early-stage Alzheimer’s, Jackson is joined by Maggie Steed as Maud’s only friend, Elizabeth, who ominously goes missing, leading to one of the mysteries at the heart of the drama.
Helen Behan plays Maud’s dutiful daughter, Helen, and Nell Williams is Maud’s doting granddaughter, Katy.
