A LOCAL woman and her son have shaved their heads to raise money for Cancer Research UK.
Gaye Easton and her son Ashley from Melksham had the chop at their home recently, where friends and supporters of the fundraising effort gathered to watch as they both had their heads shaved.
So far they have raised £1,486 for Cancer Research UK. Gaye said, “To have my hair shaved off felt loud and there is now a draft, I never fully appreciated the insulation or protection that hair provides – rain is so cold and runs straight down the back of your neck!
“The reaction from friends when they see me has been entertaining! Some people are disappointed that I don’t look odd or stranger than usual, some think it rather suits me, but everyone agrees that both Ash and I look younger.
“Everyone knows or loves someone whose life has been affected by this sickening disease. For me personally, I lost my dad in his battle against two forms of cancer. A close friend of mine was also a victim of cervical cancer and on top of that, my second eldest sister has been successful in fighting off breast cancer. More recently, one of my nieces is receiving chemotherapy in her battle against breast cancer.
“The amount we’ve raised is incredible, I am in awe of the support from our friends and their generosity.”
