AN enhanced banking service has been opened in the Post Office on Church Street by MP Michelle Donelan.
The service will benefit small businesses in the town and involves new bank-grade technology to provide faster cash deposit and withdrawals, reduced customer waiting and improved security.
“Enhancements will range from the introduction of new note counting machines to make transactions quicker to the installation of priority banking counters with improved privacy,” says a spokesperson for the Post Office. “This will support individuals and small businesses alike, offering a more private space to carry out transactions and less queuing time.”
MP Michelle Donelan said, “The newly refitted enhanced banking service looks great and the reduced waiting times will make it easier for small businesses to quickly deposit their takings, whilst not eating into their productivity.
“Post Offices are integral to the survival of many small and medium enterprises. Over £1 billion in cash is deposited over the counter every month by businesses across the UK and we are acutely aware that small business owners need to minimise time away from their business, so they can continue selling their goods and services. We are looking forward to seeing the continued rollout of enhanced banking services across our network.”
Melksham was selected to receive these services after LINK, the UK’s cash access and cash machine network, identified the need for enhanced cash deposit services following local bank branch closures.
“The enhanced banking services have thoroughly improved the efficiency of our branch,” says a spokesperson for ZCO Ltd, that runs the Melksham Post Office. “Busy small business owners as well as our regular personal banking customers can now access a much quicker service, with less queuing times. The new note counting machines are a welcome addition to improving our productivity in branch and the services we provide to our customers. We have received lots of positive feedback already from our customers in the Melksham community.”
These improvements build on the existing everyday banking services already available at Post Offices, including cash deposits and withdrawal services from almost all banks in the country.
Along with Melksham, 14 other Post Offices across the United Kingdom have also rolled out the pilot scheme, that is being delivered in partnership between the Post Office and Cash Access UK.
